About Vanessa

Yeah, who is she?

I'm a middle child, a Midwesterner, and an over-thinker. I began a career as a pastry chef when I was 19 years old, right around the time I dove deep into an eating disorder—what a coincidence! (I used to think...)

These days, as a now thirty-something year old who quit her pastry gig in an attempt to fully quit her disorder, I'm spending my time writing. What started as a hobby for me in middle school has become my main method of expression and exploration, and I thought someone—even one person—might benefit from reading what I've found.

I'm here to share what I'm finding out about myself and how I think it might relate to larger conversations about food and our bodies. I'm here to complain about being in this middle place between recovery and sickness, when the only stories people seem to be interested in are the triumphs or gritty details of rock bottom. I hope you find something here to relate to or to open you up to something new. If not, that's okay, too, try another writer, there are so many great ones!
