Day 3 of cookie chaos blends my own family favorite with an American classic. My mom always makes what she calls party mix as an element of our family’s Christmas cookie boxes. The ingredients are holiday pantry staples—Chex, peanuts, pretzels, holiday-colored M&Ms—but all together, coated in white chocolate, the mix comes alive. She’d pack bags full for the cookie boxes, and then leave the rest in a tupperware on the counter. The lid would often remain slightly ajar because one of our hands was digging in for little handfuls often.
We didn’t really do a lot of Rice Krispie treats growing up, so I never had an affinity for them, but I wanted to bring the party mix into a compact shape and this did the trick. They’re adorable, incredibly simple, and they last longer than any other cookie if wrapped well at room temperature. The perfect addition to your lineup!
Send me pics or notes or complaints if you make these! Truly, I love to hear it all. Until tomorrow, love you <3

PARTY MIX KRISPIES
Makes one 13”x 9” pan, or roughly 24 squares
5 cups Rice Krispies
1 cup Corn Chex
1 cup roughly chopped pretzels
1 cup roughly chopped salted peanuts
1 cup M&Ms
1 stick unsalted butter
12 oz bag marshmallows
4 oz chopped white chocolate (white chocolate chips will do if needed)
Spray a 13” x 9” pan well with vegetable spray.
In a large bowl, combine the Rice Krispies, Chex, pretzels, peanuts, and M&Ms. Stir to combine and set aside.
In a large sauce pot (like one you’d use to boil pasta) melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the marshmallows and white chocolate. Stir until all the mallows and white chocolate melt into the butter to create a homogenous, sticky white mixture.
Turn off the heat and dump all of the mix-ins at once. Stir, stir, stir. It’s sticky, kind of annoying, but keep stirring until it’s well-combined.
Pour the whole mess into the sprayed pan and press down with a spatula or your hands. I like to sprinkle a handful of extra M&Ms, peanuts and pretzels on top and press those down into the surface.
Let the pan sit for roughly 1 hour before flipping the pan out and cutting into squares. I like to put a sheet pan upside down on top of the krispies, flip the whole thing over so now you have upside down treats on a sheet pan. Now, put a cutting board on the top (which is the bottom) and flip again. Make sense?
Cut into squares the size of your liking—I made 24. These keep well wrapped at room temperature for up to a week, or you can also freeze them for a couple of months (great news for all of us due to give birth within a couple of months).
